I'll give it a shot and see if my next "not for general consumption" post is hidden from the general feed as it should be. If not then I suppose that the plugin is no longer compatible and I'll find another way to make it work.

Yes, the option gone.  WP doesn't try to do compression, so you
shouldn't need to turn it off.  We leave compression as a decision for
the server.
