So do I. But with me I prefer it that way since the Admin "get's out of
the way" while I'm managing my site, the old UI was rather distracting
with either Fresh or Classic colors. Realistically though, the
gray/white neutral color scheme with the black header (not counting the
icons, highlighting and yellow alert banners) makes for a great default
base theme for changing the admin color scheme by way of a plugin or
whatever.

There will still be two color schemes available from the user profile.
We won't remove the option b/c some plugins use this. We'll be adding
a second color scheme (probably based on the 2.5 color scheme) before
we launch.

(Not quoting:) If so then it should be removed for 2.7 if it's going
to
be non-functional. No need to confuse users more than necessary with
non-functioning items.

I haven't heard any talk about the "color scheme" option in the user
settings, but is that something that needs to be removed, or are
there plans
to still let users choose their own color scheme?
Nathan
I think the plan is for 2.8 allow the the admin area to be customized
with different css inside the "theme" package. But don't quote me on
that. :)
