Thanks for the clarification. I believe you're right. RC's through
WordPress have been considered signs that the release could be hours
away. I just hope those who report on the release point people to the
public version and not the RC2.

Looking back at the last few major releases, RC's are common to be released
a few moments before finals.

When writing up a post about the release of 2.,7, I looked back to see when
RC2 was released and it looks like they were both released to the public on
the same day. This seems odd to me. I know that a Release Candidate is just
that, a release candidate but I just find it odd that an RC2 would be
released and in the same day, the actual version. Maybe this is not weird at
all?
