I'm with you on this, however I still think a forum is the best place for support because like you say it makes reading/searching for known problems and general questions more open to everyone. The problem with this is that the attendance of people with knowledge is really poor on wp.org and if you even get an answer on your question, 7 times out of 10 its a really impudent answer like "Ever heard of searching", "Have you even tried looking" aso. I'm running the official Swedish portal and these issues on wp.orgs forum has often been pointed out by our members.

In other words, I think the solution for this is a better organized forum and support around it on wp.org.

I agree. Recently, even though I offer support for any code I develop
through my comments on my website, people have emailed me asking for help. I
don't know why, but even I think that there is something better about asking
via email than asking through a forum.

Maybe some people think that because 2.8 dev hasn't started yet that this is
the best place for problems with 2.7. I don't know. I would love to see a
support mailing list though, I think it gives a more personal touch,
although then there's the fact that the forums are easier for other people
that may have the same problem to find.

Meh, what do I know. Anyway back to WP. :P

Have to agree, and as my point earlier on this list, are people missing
the meaning of this list or what? Support mailing list?

Maybe a new list needs setting up for support questions? Then everyone
who wants to use a mailing list rather than the support web pages has
somewhere to go. It could even link in to the web page, I guess.
