Theres been talk not too long ago about these, They were -supposed- to be removed, However they never were, as dbDelta() doesnt remove columns. They dont exist in new databases and will probably be droped from old schemas in 3.1 possibly

For WP 2.8 it says that post_category and link_category columns are deleted, but as I checked they aren't. Is there any particular reason for that or not?
