Services are people too! It's really simple. Every process on the system in a modern OS, Windows or Unix, runs under a certain user account. Even stuff started in the "background". It's running on the system, you just don't see it.
A service runs. It can open Windows and stuff within it's little virtual Window environment. You can't see them, but they are there. The biggest challenge is figuring out how to run installation programs silently, so they don't open prompts. Can't click OK to what you can't see.
