On AppDeploy.com one of the users had this problem with Adobe Reader. He
wanted to upgrade everyone to version 7 but there were versions from
version 2 upwards on different boxes. his install script had to check
for every version and use the appropriate commands to remove it.
I basically do the same thing with my scripts. Most probgrams we use
though have the same removal procedure through versions. So i just call
that regardless and then install. It works for the most part.
There are some rare cases where i have to write up a batch script or WSH
script to check for more versions then needed.

Hello,
We recently took some interest in wpkg, it seems it will allow us to automate
a lot of windows work. One question though: is there an easy to create an
uninstall profile for a set of defined software.
To illustrate this a bit more, say you have X number of workstations with
software maintained currently by hand. Most have software A, B & C, but you
want to start deploying wpkg for all of them. Thus the need to be able to
easily remove existing software arises.
Think of an admin going to a workstation, issuing one command to clean up the
existing thunderbird, firefox, etc - then running wpkg with synchronize
options, and having them installed from packages.
What are some of the ways you have been dealing with the existing
installations?
