Yes, but it is the proper way to do it. I'd hate to see a profiles.xml
and packages.xml for each and every windows update. Trying to keep up
with that would be a headache. Plus, with windows update set to
autoupdate I thought I had everything, but then when I installed my
WSUS server it showed packages I needed on my desktops even though
microsoft update showed I needed nothing. And if you want to get
technical, the microsoft baseline security analyzer shows even more
problems (windows xp is very insecure by default). Also, I'm not even really sure you need a CAL for every PC. I know the WSUS documentation says that you do, but I purchased the volume licensing version of windows server standard 2003 R2 with 150 CALs, but during the install, it asked me how many CALs I had, and I could put it at 9999 CALs with no error, and no verification.
