Yesterday late evening i have do some test.
1) upgrading from command line, eg:
\\FILE\wpkg\wpkg.js /syncronize
works flawlessy with:
<upgrade cmd='msiexec /qb /i %SOFTWARE%\WPKG\WPKGSetup.msi
SETTINGSFILE=%WPKGROOT%\settings.xml' />
2) upgrading using wpkg client itself does not work (error 1638,
'...you have to remove previous version before installing this').
3) upgrading using wpkg client but with:
<upgrade cmd='msiexec /qb /x{BD368683-C6EB-480A-B497-56CE35D59D28}' />
<upgrade cmd='msiexec /qb /i %SOFTWARE%\WPKG\WPKGSetup.msi
SETTINGSFILE=%WPKGROOT%\settings.xml' />
got error 1603 and leave really really strange result.
I've found that double clicking on the WPKGSettings icon start the msi
installer, that the folder %PROGRAMFILE%\WPKG\ have the permission
totally removed (no one ACL listed).
If i try to uninstall i got:

after resetting the permission with fill control to Administrator and
SYSTEM i was able to uninstall WPKG and reinstall it.
Really half an hour of total panic, also because i was so stupid to use
the main configuration (the 'production' O;-).
I'm trying to test some other way of automatic upgrade from .7 to .8
(i'm considering and upgrade script that call AT to schedule the
upgrade with WPKG not running...), but i hope these info will be
useful.
