Do you have any indication that your JRE 1.6 install hiccup was related to the WPKG XML-reader changes? As I see from the logs the last entry is execution of the install command. The command execution routines have not been touched at all. So I assume it must be some other side-effect or temporary issue. Unless you're able to reproduce this issue and it only happens with the updated version.
