Notes From New Palestine: Helping the Homeless Due to Slumlord 07 sept 2005-- Today at approximately 9:00 am the city of victoria informed the tenants of the caldwelll apts located at 2321 cook st that their building had been condemned. the caldwell apts seems to be owned by robin kimpton, if so, this would make yet another of his buldings to be condemnd leaving more people suddendly homeless in our hood. 07 sept 2005-- Today at approximately 9:00 am the city of victoria informed the tenants of the caldwelll apts located at 2321 cook st that their building had been condemned. the caldwell apts seems to be owned by robin kimpton, if so, this would make yet another of his buldings to be condemnd leaving more people suddendly homeless in our hood. one resident of the apt building said, that he was informed by the city, that if he did not vacate his apt by this evening he would be fined. the tenants are now homeless after the city gave them until 4:30 pm to to seek other accommodations. many tenants had already paid this months rent, as well as , some new tenants had handed in their damage deposit. no assistance was offered, by the city, as to how they would retrieve this - the rent - or where they are to stay for the month, yet alone this evening. street link has offered to place the tenants of the condemned building on a priority list for tonight's bed space. they will only know if they have shelter tonight at 7pm upon arriving at the street link door. many might end up being turned away. this is not the first time robin kimpton has made our residence of new palestine (fernwood) homeless due to substandard building up keep. in november 2003 http://victoria.indymedia.org posted a times colonist article on the tenants who were "forced to move out of 1176 Yates St. after bylaw officers closed the rooming house because of safety concerns.
