Initiation In The Cube*

Initiation in the cube.
You go in as a shadow
And emerge with flesh tones dancing.
Who gets the chance and why?
All the men move together,
Lifting one another in each other's arms.
When women emerge they are fewer
And move further apart.
Free form ululations.
Swim the tree with your flinging arms.
Up close but impersonal,
The air resounds.
Cartwheels for a cart without a horse.
No need.  We're freed to move.
If it wants to be an embrace, just let it.
Heavy breathing from a pillar of red,
Carry your train
With some extra legs and arms.
