Mars Spacecraft Nears the Red Planet

NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is scheduled to reach Mars on Friday,
March 10, when it carries out the complex maneuvers that will put it
into orbit. NASA TV and the Web will cover the two-hour orbit insertion
process. Once safely in its final orbit later this year, the spacecraft
will see features on Mars in greater detail than ever before.

How do spacecraft like the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter "talk" back and
forth with engineers on Earth? A network of huge satellite dishes,
operating on three continents, maintains communications with more than
                                 40 spacecraft.

Lightning crackles on Saturn, Stardust returns cometary particles to
Earth, scientists discuss the latest news from Mars. These topics and
more are part of our growing podcast library.
