I am evaluating Ipswich WS_FTP as a replacement for a Linux based (Cobalt Qube - ProFTP) server. Our primary customer is having trouble connecting to the Linux ProFTP through a Checkpoint firewall they recently installed. Nobody can figure that one out. Anyhow I would like a Windows based solution. There seems to be a significant performance issue running on Windows. The Linux FTP receives files at about 13.5 mbps but the best I can get on Windows is a little over 2.0 mbps. I've tried both Win2000 Server and Workstation and several levels of hardware and the results are fairly consistent. I've run the software as a service and as an application. I am using the same port on the switch as the Linux boxed used so everything in the data path is the same. Is there some settings that need to be tweaked in NT to let the FTP software run at optimal speed? Any clues as to where the bottleneck might be? All performance indicators show very little impact on resources when receiving a file.
