I believe the difference is actually what language the code the FTP server
is written in. As an MVS Systems Programmer in another life I seem to
remember that the version of MVS or OS/390 and how the install on the
mainframe was done determines if the OE (Open Edition) version of the MVS
FTP server is used. If you connect to the server and it replies with ...
"220-FTPD1 IBM FTP CS ....." that the "CS" is C-Server.
I am not positive about this......
