I also had problems with FTP Pro and an MVS server. I wanted to use it to replace our current FTP software. FTP Pro has always been my product of choice. However, it would not list the files on the server correctly and when I tried to download I got an error about the file not being found, even though I could see it in the list. I emailed support and they told me that they were sorry but my version (V7.02) was no longer supported and I would have to pay for another upgrade before they would help me.
I have been evaluating Bullet Proof FTP (http://www.bpftp.com). For 29.95 per copy you get free upgrades forever and free unlimited support plus there are price breaks on multiples. The users like the interface and say it is faster than the Reflections FTP product we are currently using. Dennis L. We had been using version 4.53, but it couldn't handle files over 4 gigabytes. We upgraded to version 7.0. 7.0 had a problem with appending the mainframe username to the beginning of the file when sending it to the mainframe unless we set the number of simultaneous transfers to 0. We need to be able to transfer more than one file at a time, so we got upgraded to version 7.5. Here is the current dilemma: In version 7.5, when we send a SITE LRECL command to the main frame to set the record length of the file, it doesn't take. The default record length on the mainframe is 80. We send the SITE command to set the record length to something different, the mainframe appears to accept the change of record length, but when we look at the file from a mainframe terminal, it always shows the record length as 80. This problem did not occur with any previous versions of WS_FTP. It seems like WS_FTP is sending the command, and that the mainframe is accepting it, but when using 7.5, the change just doesn't take effect. The case is the same when using SITE commands to send the file to tape rather than disk. Even if we use a SITE command to specify tape, even though the mainframe appears to accept the command, the file still goes to disk. Can anyone help me out here?
