Dear John C,
What FTP server are you setting up?  It sounds as though the IIS FTP server is already running on your computer, and is catching all the FTP connections and serving its own directories.  Disable the IIS FTP service and try connecting again.

Subject: [WS_FTP Forum] RE:wsftp server problem

I am trying to set up a ftp server on my desktop-I created a hostftp.cracker.com, anonymous access, virtual folders, read and write permissions, however when I access the ftp site either from my own computer which is the host(not sure if this is possible) or someone else access the site, there is a folder named pub with a some files in it -ablecommerce42.exe, empower3703.zip and some other files.Along with the pub folder are some files entitled gif1,2 and 3.The virtual folder I added is not there. What are these files doing there and what am I doing wrong?
