I have a couple of questions regarding which user database to use. We want to put the WS_FTP Server in a DMZ but the security folks don't want user names and passwords to be held in the DMZ. What is the most secure method of protecting the user information? If someone gets access to the server, can't they just use the ODBC connection to get user passwords anyway? How secure is a local NT user database or using a domain?

Also, if you are using an external ODBC database like a SQL Server, do you have to set Local Security Policy settings to allow access from the network and logon local priveledges as seems to be indicated in this post?

If so, how does the system know who a user is unless you create one for him on the machine, in which case you might as well use the NT database?
