Thanks, Claudio. Unix.
But, since I needed urgently to upload files to my site, I downloaded an evaluation of v 8.0, whicjh I can use in the meantime for 30, and wrote to Service IPSWITCH, to activate the code of my most recent purchase, August 14.
I just uploaded files with the newly installed 8 evaluation, and everything went OK. I saw the original and good names of of the files, the upload worked, and I have no troubles no.
I suspect, that what might have happened is, that somehow I had an interference with a defrag of my PC disc running simultaneously with the backup of my files I was doing at that moment, maybe.
The strange thing is that apparently WS FTP was showing me wrong file names, because I tested and tried downloaded some files fromn the server, and they arrival was OK, with the original file names.
I will wait until Service gives me some indications on how to re-include my username and PW in the software for further use.
Once I have tested everything agasin, I will write to the list, with the outcaome of my experimenting.
Thanks agai, for your time and for answering my (sort of desperate request for help)
Saludos

Erns,

WS_FTP Pro is not parsing the names correctly because the Host Type is not the right one.  What server are you using?  Could you send the log including the beginning, when the connection is established.

I had just sent a message with an attached file so that you could see what my problem is. Your server blocked the attachment. So I am sending now the contents (in text) of that image attached in my last message.
File name changes (some of them, because all were changed, and each show a size of 1 kb.
For example:
8 21:47 Programa 2003.doc
8 18:07 Programa 2003.pdf
8 18:04 unorchcurso2003.jpg
7 2003 buscar-search.gif
6 20:14 !cid_258922.jpg
6 09:36 biblio1.htm
and so all of the files, with different numbers added. No way to open, it says the file isnt there.
Regards, and thanks in advance for any help

I just had sent a message to the list.
I want to add that the file names are shown as in the attached file: file_names_errors.jpg (16.8 kb)

Subject: Change of file and folder names after download of backup, was it accidental?

Hello:
I use WS-FTP 8.0, and recently had upgraded from 7.5
I had been using the software without problems up to yesterday evening, when I made some backups for my sites, downloaded files and folder to my PC.
Files were transferred correctly, the names of files and folder exactly the samename as on the server.
But this morning, I tried to make a listing of files at the server, and for those folders from where I backup-ed yesterday, the name of the folders and the files had changed. They are no longer recognized and I cant open them double-clicking.
The folder and files show usually two or three numbers, and what seems to by the time. Something like this: 23 2003 filename.
I cannot, by clicking on them, open the folder. They are not recognized as valid folders or files, or it tells me that the file cannot be transferred.
However, when I look at my backup folder in my PC, files names and folders downloaded have their correct number and I can execute them.
On the other hand, when I visit the sites with my IE 6, I can open the files without problems . There they have their correct names, and the site functions OK.
I REFRESHEed several times, but it always shows me the altered folder and file names.
Since I am new to version 8, I may have done something incorrectly.
Should I go back and reinstall 7.5?
Should I change all the names to their original ones (in the window to the right of my WS-FTP?) These are in the hundreds. Since the site works OK, and the files are recognized as such, I probably wouyld make a great error ijn trying to rename the files, in the right window of WS-FTP !!!!
Should I reinstall 8? Since it is an upgrade from 7.5 it probably will not install independently?
Should I drop WS-FTP and look for another client?
Your advise will be welcomed.
