Title: RE: [WS_FTP Forum] unauthorized ftp protocol?
Yes true they have been changing some things, but for XP SP2 which is still in beta, I have tested with that also and still can ftp using it also...with and without the Windows firewall on.....the orginal poster....Check also if your firewall had updates about the same time as you did the Windows updates as it maybe where it stopped your ftp from working.

M$ has been changing the built-in firewall in XP.  It was, by default, turned off.  With the latest updates, I believe it is now, by default, turned on.  They have also tightened the filter rules.

Not sure which update stopped your ftping, as I have all updates and can
still ftp....But to shut off the Auto updates...Right Click my computer>pick
properties>updates>turn off auto updates.>Then go to Windows Update site.
The only thing I can suggest is download and install one update at a
time...doing a restore point before each and test.   This will take a while,
but you will know which one you don't want.
