Gary, This will result in UserZ seeing "UserZtoUser1" in his home directory (which points to User1's home folder), and User1 logging into the virtual directory "User1Home" which points to \users\user1 (and doesn't show the duplicate folder)
1. Create a vFolder1 = User1Home - this will be used to aim User1 to the folder which really points to users\user1. Add User1 with all permissions, UserZ with whatever permissions you need him to have. Do not check any other boxes. (for a shortcut, select vFolder1 and click the DUPLICATE feature and enter a new name, the permissions and directory it points to will copy over so you don't have to re-enter them.) 2. vFolder2 = UserZtoUser1 - this will be used to show UserZ the contents of User1's folder. Add User1 with all permissions, UserZ with whatever permissions you need him to have. Check the box to include this in the user's home directory. This will only show up in UserZ's directory 3. in Folders... select the folder that the vfolders point to. Check the Propogate permissions This way if User1 creates subfolders, UserZ can see them as well. If this is undesired, don't check it. 4. Now set User1's Home Folder to point to User1Home. When I click the ellipses button next to the User Directory field, all I get is the physical folder structure. I see the problem. Create a virtual folder pointing to user1's server created home folder. Then go in and edit the user's Home directory to point to the virtual folder (not the server created default) Thanks, Sarah Mullins ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: "Carmichael, Gary \(STL\)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Thu, 10 Jun 2004 08:46:48 -0500 Sarah, You're close. The scenario is correct, except the home folder for User1 is called User1, not User1Home. UserZ logs in and sees his own files plus a User1 folder. User1 sees his own files plus a User1 folder, which is just a pointer to his own directory. I am having the server automatically create the home directories, so the directory name matches the username. I wanted to take it off the forum though. I hope that was ok. The scenario below is how I interpretted what you wanted to happen: 1. User1 logs into their home directory called User1Home and sees all his files and subfolders 2. UserZ logs in and sees his own files and folders, plus has a folder called User1Home. Are you saying that User1 is logging into \Users\User1, and in there has a folder called User1Home? What you describe below is how I have things set up. 1. Virtual folder called USERX pointing to Users\UserX with proper permissions for User X and Z 2. Permissions propagated to lower folders 3. User X's home folder is Users\UserX User X is able to login, but then has a directory called USERX in the list along with everything else. I was hoping there was a way to keep this from showing up in the "real" user's directory while still having it show in User Z's directory. Any thoughts? Create a virtual folder called USERX, 2. Set permissions for userX and UserZ as desired 3. Go into FOLDERS to propogate permissions to subfolders if desired. 4. UserX and set his home directory = virtual folder called userX 5. Here's what I'm trying to do. All users are locked to their home directory. I have user X with home directory users\X. This is a regular user. I have user Y with home directory users\Y. This is also a regular user. I have user Z with home directory users\Z. This user needs to be able to put files in X and Y. I have set up 2 virtual directories. The first is called X pointing to users\X and the second is called Y pointing to users\Y. The permissions for both of these virtual directories are set to user Z, and I have the checkmark set to "Include in user home directory". So when Z logs in it should see X and Y, which it does. Here's my problem. Leaving things as stated above, X or Y can log in,but they are in limbo somewhere. I cannot change directories or put files or anything. To remedy this, I added permissions for X to the X virtual directory and the same for Y. They are able to log in, but they now have an extra directory (X and Y respectively) listed. Is there a way I can get X, Y and any other user logged in without the extra directory showing up? Is there a better configuration to use? I'm still trying different things, but if someone has a suggestion I would be grateful.
