After seven days with no virus scanner set (I stop all McAfee Netshield services), iFtpSvc have a normal use of CPU (casually?). I look in this moment report the problem to McAFee.

Thanks

I would tend to agree with Pete. Though  a 1 GHz  server isn't really that underpowered, it looks like you may be trying to do too much with one server.   An FTP server doesn't really require huge amounts of CPU time or speed.   It does require lots of memory, and I/O bandwidth.  It looks like your also running a Database and Webservices, so along with the real-time virus scanning you are pushing it.
One thing to try also, is to set the virus scanner to scan newly created or modified files only.  It may be set to scan all files when opened.  If your running this on a webserver it will rescan every single file opened for read.

A more powerfull machine that can handle the workload.

You can test the hypothesis by shutting down Netshield and sending some files... monitor CPU load and see if there's a difference.

Based on just the CPU alone, if you're sending and receiving even semi-large files and having NetShield virus scan everything that comes in (good idea) then it is very plausable that Netshield is a source of your CPU consumption.  It's a hog.

Juan,

What hardware are you using? Model, CPU, RAM, NIC, Disk, RAID, etc. It would make it easier for people to make suggestions then.

Hi

Sometimes iFtpSvc up the machine at 100% CPU permanent usage. In this moment any ftp remote connection it's impossible.
We restart FTP Server and in this moment iFtpSvc it's no use 100% CPU but no work. We need computer restart.

We have:

- Windows 2000 Server with last Microsoft Service Pack and last updates

- Ipswitch WS_FTP Server version 4.0 with ifs4.01 and ifs4.02 patches

- Veritas Backup Exec

- McAfee Netshield

Thanks in advanced
