First: check whether to appropriate ports are open in the firewall. The normal connect runs through port 21, which should be open by default. The data connection (used for the LIST command) AFAIK uses port 20.

Second: Check the type of the server. Is it using SSL connections? This could cause a similar problem if one (server or client) are behind a firewall.

Subject: [WS_FTP Forum] 8.03 and Windows XP

We have a user who is unable to connect to various sites that our other users can access.  This user is using 8.03 where all of the other users are using 7.x

When he connects it seems to connect to the site, but just sits at the LIST command, and finally errors out saying it wasn’t able to get a response from the server.  He can connect to the site using IE.

Is there a simple solution for this problem?

Thanks,

Sander
