Hi Matt,
Yes, lots of ideas :-)
Under what user is your WS_FTP Server service
running? Is this the local SYSTEM account? If so, you can't have a
network connection for a local-only account to any other
machine. It will not work at all.
My suggestion:
You need to run your WS_FTP Server under a domain
account, which is known to both, DEV and FTPSERVER.
This account needs to have a permanent drive mapped on
FTPSERVER to DEV.
DEV: net share ...
FTPSERVER: net use ... /p:yes
When this is set up, you should easily be able
to link a virtual folder in WS_FTP Server to a physical folder on
DEV.
Alternatively you can set up a WS_FTP Server rule to
copy a received file from FTPSERVER to DEV. This scenario would cover
for problems in case DEV is down (which may be likely) and FTPSERVER is
up. Also, this would be possible without domain account, you just had
to do a NET USE ... /USER:... in your command script before copying a
file.
BTW re. "with the user account tied to the folders": It
doesn't matter at all under which FTP user you sign on. This is not
related in this context.
Regards,
Erich

Subject: [WS_FTP Forum] networked folder ftp link
We have a site on
our developer server (DEV) that requires files be uploaded via ftp to the web
root which is outward facing. We run wsftp server on a separate machine
(FTPSERVER). I tried virtual folders, using the network path to the web
root shared on DEV, next I tried mapping the share to a mapped drive on the
FTPSERVER (G:) and placing the path in virtual folders. Neither worked
when I logged onto the ftp server with the user account tied to the
folders.
any
ideas?
