I think it's the other way round - Safari works off Konquerer.

I doubt MS would want people to run older versions of their products. I think they have enough headaches keeping Winternet Explorer secure..

Just a bit of an update:

It's now possible to run both Internet Explorer 3 and Internet Explorer 4.01
in addition to 5.01sp2 and 5.5sp2 (and 6.0!) all on the one machine.
