It's not really any help for you Mac bods :) , but HTML-Kit ( http://www.chami.com/html-kit/ ) is by far the best coding app that I've found, free or otherwise.
The base version IS free, which does everything I need it to do. Similar feature set to the aforementioned editor, highly customisable and lots of plugins that you can find to do lots of handy things (eg. page TOC) or you can make them yourself.
The paid version adds some nifty extra add-ons, etc.
