1.) Whitespace between list items (</li> <li>) is a recurring issue on this list. IE is known to behave differently than other browsers (check the archives for more information.) You should find removing the whitespace will give you more consistent results across browsers.

Then, hopefully with Nick's advice it will all work out for you.
