i see the same effect in both firefox and safari - a white strip to the left of the blue background? in both Firefox and in safari. I note your css doesnt validate, and it seems to be on the background line. I've never seen em units used for offseting a background in css. Perhaps it isnt valid to do so? What a pain, of that is the case.
