Replying to Ian Fenn
Sorry I'm like 2 days late on this one but I mailed it from the wrong email address. Norty Piggy, bad.
I remember on the list a while back there were two methods posted but I've lost
them now. The first was Flash Satay and I kind of bawked at that but the other
one is what I use at the moment. The code is basically
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="graphics/movie1stop.swf"
width="210" height="340">
<param name="movie" value="graphics/movie1stop.swf" />
<param name="loop" value="false"/>
<param name="quality" value="high"/>
<param name="bgcolor" value="#fff8dc"/>
<img src="graphics/flashholder.gif" width="288" height="128" alt="flash goes
here" />
</object>
This is online and validates at XHTML 1.0 strict at
http://www.toofunky.com.au
I have tested it on IE 6, NS 7, NS 4.7, Opera 7.23, and Firefox 0.8
The issues I have found are that it doesn't show in Opera (grrr) at all. But for
this site nobody seems to be using Opera so I've copped that on the chin for
now. The second bother is that in IE it shows a horrible x while the flash
loads, which I think is quite unacceptable really.
There was a post here a few weeks ago that pointed to a page that had some
research on it. Apparently, as far as I can recall, only the old invalid
traditional code works fine on all platforms. I've tossed up myself on whether
or not to bite the bullet and go for transitional here instead of strict.
