Hi I use ▼ and ▲ as solid up/down arrows, works in everything I can lay my hands on apart from a Palm handheld which renders a [?] character or similar.
I wrap them in a span and set their font-size to ~ 150% in CSS. There are some unicode links on the WSG resource section.
