Yes I am able to see it in my browser maybe the server is set to render the accent, if not how come I am not able to see the same thing with my page?
I would be surprise, if we have to use XHTML to have accent ?
My Page use HTML4.1 strict.
It's no question of HTML or XHTML.
It would be more easy to answer, if you gave an example of the page that doesn't work.
There are two possible problems I can think of:
* the server sends a wrong encoding in the http-header. By using http-equiv you can cope with a missing charset, if server-sided encoding and http-equiv are in conflict the Server wins.
* you declare using UTF-8 or something else via http-header or http-equiv but your editor uses some other encoding.
Do you know the internationalization part of the W3C-Site? <http://www.w3.org/International/> There are a lot of useful and (given the subject) rather comprehensive ressources. Especially the FAQ and tutorial parts.
