I would guess the reason for this has been well planned, and is probably not to do with the website itself, - nineMSN is (as the name suggests) part of the Microsoft Network. The music you download from this site is in Windows Media format, and uses their licensing model, this is very big business for them, and they probably want to force potential buyers into using their proprietary format, which will impact the iPod / iTunes market.
PS I am not anti Microsoft, so MS fans don't yell at me!... I am just stating why I think they have done this... business is business, but this goes against every grain of the web standards ethos.
