I tend to disagree, as do all the accessibility experts and guidelines of which I'm aware. From my own personal experience, most site's font size is too small, even their largest fixed size. I have a small screen set to 1024x768 and 120dpi from which, at least when surfing, I tend to sit over a meter away. While my eyesight is very good (at least with glass on), I still run into problems similar to those with poor vision. Fortunately, since I use Firefox, I can easily adjust my font size at will. But most people are still foolishly using IE (I'm not saying they're foolish as they might not have a choice or are just ill informed) and therefor are stuck.
