Hi, I've spoken to the person who's email address was the problem and I am not holding the person responsible for the issues.
Their ISP in the US (Fatcow Web Hosting Llc - www.fatcow.com, clearly one to avoid) had moo moo monumental screwups with mail servers and the company/person concerned was also a victim of this. I guess these things happen from time to time. In case of a similar problem in the future I'll alert a few other people on how to suspend the list without shutting down the whole mail server.
