IE Win (surprise) is exploded to reveal the whole menu and I think
it has to
do with how the js is (or isn't) linked to my page.
I realise that I don't need all of the css on these sheets (and that
there
are validation errors), but I have left it all there until I fix
this issue
at which point I will weed it down to the bare necessities.
Any help would be appreciated.

You've got Javascript errors in Firefox and Opera, too. I think you
need to have those script tags inside Conditional Comments - though
that would be a problem for IE5 Mac, I guess. I'm sure Thierry can
straighten that out for you. Once done, though, you have issues with
text resizing. To mitigate that, give your menubar some proportional
margin or padding at the bottom - or your main content on the top - to
prevent the sub-menus from overlapping the content.
