It may seem strange, but image maps are more accessible to screen reader users than to almost any other user group. They are a significant barrier to some user groups even when correctly coded, so you should provide the information in an alternative, accessible manner.
For your class exercise you need to do the following to make the map accessible to screen reader users: 1. Provide an 'alt' attribute for the main image. 2. Provide 'alt' attributes for each of the areas in the map. -----Original Message----- From: li...@webstandardsgroup.org [mailto:li...@webstandardsgroup.org] On Behalf Of Marvin Hunkin Sent: 25 October 2009 12:36 To: wsg@webstandardsgroup.org Subject: [WSG] Accessible Image Map Editors hi. is image map accessible with jaws? i need to create a image map for a web page i am developing for one of my online programming classes with http://www.johnsmiley.com any recommendations would be appreciated. cheers Marvin. ******************************************************************* List Guidelines: http://webstandardsgroup.org/mail/guidelines.cfm Unsubscribe: http://webstandardsgroup.org/join/unsubscribe.cfm Help: memberh...@webstandardsgroup.org ******************************************************************* ******************************************************************* List Guidelines: http://webstandardsgroup.org/mail/guidelines.cfm Unsubscribe: http://webstandardsgroup.org/join/unsubscribe.cfm Help: memberh...@webstandardsgroup.org *******************************************************************
