Hi Marvin I'm not sure what you are trying to build with svg, but maybe you should take a look at Yahoo's YUI Charts. You can use a data table as the source for the charts. This gives users like you access to accessible data while also allowing the YUI library to build an interactive chart for free.
http://new.yuilibrary.com/yui/docs/charts/ SVG is better than canvas for accessibility, but I don't think it is as easy to use as a well markedup data table for screen reader users. I wouldn't use SVG for your page elements (headers, links, buttons).
