Yup, I would be in favor of setting up the classpath etc. (which is essentially what the scripts do) inside the build.xml and just using ant.

I was just curious about the reasons behind having scripts on top of the ant build file. I
personally would much rather have this done away with in favor of pure ant, but I don't know if
there's something I don't know...you know?
If it's a matter of man power, I would be more than happy to do this.
