What is kvasd? wsjtx complains about it but works anyway.
The WSJT-X User’s Guide identifies kvasd(.exe) as the executable code
for the Koetter-Vardy [Algebraic Soft-Decision] Decoder. You can read
more about it (and why it is used for decoding JT65) in reference 5 at
http://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/refs.html . See also
http://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/devel.html , including the
Acknowledgment at bottom of the page.
Appendix C ("Linux, OS X, and Compiling from Source Code") advises users
as follows:
"You should also download kvasd ( link to
physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/kvasd ) and put it in the same
directory as the executable binaries wsjtx and jt9. Normally (after
you have run the script /usr/bin/wsjtx at least once) this directory
will be $HOME/.wsjtx."
A pre-built executable such as the various versions of kvasd
downloadable from the WSJT web site will be usable only if the CPU
architecture and run-time libraries are compatible with those for which
it was built. As described in other recent communications on the
wsjt-devel list, when necessary I've had others with an otherwise
unsupported platform set up a login account for me. I can compile kvasd
on that host in a few minutes.
