Hi Bill,

Hi Joe,
Tnx Tom. Yes, we have taken care to assure that WSJT-X can be built on
most *nix systems.
By "installation packages" (mentioned in my message copied below) I
meant binary packages that could be installed by less sophisticated
users. We'll try to have those ready for the most popular platforms.
I believe packaging rules for some (most?) "official" Linux distribution
package repositories require that a source package be available as well
as binary installers in the form of Debian packages or RPM packages.
For Debian, there is no hard rule for a tar.gz, but it is "highly
encouraged". Debian uses what's called a debian-watch file, which does
what it says on the tin, watches a URL, website or file name for a
changes against the tar.gz in the Deb source package. If one does not
have such a file, you can add comments to the debian-watch file and
simply explain the situation, as I did for the WSPR PPA. Lintian, when
used in pedantic mode complains if tits not there, however, Kamal
advised me that if it's not available, we don't have to use the
debian-watch file. The source code is available via SVN, which I think
is what gets around the need. But again, its highly advisable to have a
tar.gz
Info: https://wiki.debian.org/debian/watch
I have done a lot of work with the CMake build script to get it to
produce both source and binary Linux packages but understand that the
CMake template packaging specifications are not quite perfect for
acceptable "official" repositories. I would like to work with our Linux
packaging members to try and automate the production of Linux packages
with CMake for WSJT-X.
I tested the package target a couple days ago (Debian & TGZ). I'll send
you the results.

Hi Joe,
If you intended to release the Beta October 1st, I'm sure either John (
AC6SL ) or myself could come up with either a PPA or Debian Package,
maybe both.
All along I have been building versions (the latest is 4309) using my Debian
amd64 system with Qt5 downloaded from their website. Debian is not
(thankfully) Ubuntu, so there's a little fooling around I have to do (Qt5 is
not an available package for Debian (hence the download from their website)
and the Debian packages have different names than the Ubuntu packages). I
posted a summary of how to easily build the svn on a Debian system at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/WSJTX/conversations/topics/461
Things are working just fine on 1.4.
Qtcreator reports just two warning, but recently there was an error with an
undefined symbol, so I added it:
#define PROJECT_MANUAL "http://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/wsjtx-
doc/wsjtx-main.html"

I've not built WSJT-X using Qmake in a while, but, if wsjtx.pro and
wsjtx/lib/Makefile are up to date, we could probably pull together a
tar.gz with instructions for building from source. Need to confirm that
will Bill of course.
In any case I can help out in those two areas, but not on Mac I'm afraid.

Hi all,
For the forthcoming beta release of WSJT-X v1.4, is it feasible for us
to have ready suitable installation packages (and instructions) for
Linux and OS X, as well as Windows?
