Hmmm...termio on Winodws seems quite unstable...sounds a bit like it's
related to the Kenwood problem too.    I can test all these commands in C#
and they get the expected response so I'm quite confident it's not any
hardware related issue or the radio.  I get the same results on Windows 7
64bit and Windows 10 build 9879 64-bit.
Googling around indicates others having problems with the rxtx library being
unstable.

But done through hamlib it starts off with an extra byte, then the correct #
of bytes, then a byte short.

I noticed that responses of 2 chars miss a byte, 3 chars is right sometimes,
and 4 or greater gets an extra byte.  Sound like Goldilocks and the Three
Bears.
