I've been using the fmtest and associated programs to participate in a
number of the FMTs. I've found that I mostly get good (< 1Hz) results but
occasionally big errors. The latter seem to be due to weaker signals with
QRM present. Because the current fmtest lets one set the "base" frequency
to the nearest kHz it is often necessary to have a pretty wide (4-500 Hz)
widnow in which to search for the peak.
I've modified fmtest to accept a float for the base frequency and round the
value to the nearest 0.1 kHz. This lets me set the base frequency to
within 100 Hz of the signal and hence use a much smaller filter bandwidth.
If there's interest I can post the modified fmtest.f90. I modified
fmtave.f90 also to be compatible with the newer fmtest.
