Hello All, Bill (G4WJS) has done an extraordinary amount of work on the WSJT-X Super Build script, which enables compiling WSJT-X and Hamlib3 from various Tags and Branches with minimal effort. Working with Bill, we ( users of Ubuntu / Mint Linux distro's ) now have a proper Debian package that builds on Launchpad ( the Ubuntu Repository Staging / Infrastructure Build Server(s) ) which is up to date with the latest development efforts. This is a major milestone as the current repository version of WSJT-X is v1.1. However, please bare in mind, these packages are development builds, and things may not always be 100%.
What does this mean to end-users? You can, after enabling the PPA's, install the latest WSJT-X development build through your normal system package manager ( apt-get ). No compiling is necessary. The initial installation is performed in (2) parts, however, subsequent updates are via traditional methods: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade. Part-#1: Due to the fact the KVASD binary is *non-FOSS* ( Non Free Open Source Software ), the user must install the KVASD decoder by first agreeing to Joe's ( K1JT ) EULA ( End User License Agreement ). This is a simple, quick, menu driven installation. Subsequent updates of WSJT-X, on the same system build, do not require re-installation of the KVASD Binary. Part-#2: After KVASD installation, install WSJT-X Dev from the PPA as you would any other Debian/Ubuntu package, using ( apt-get ) Bare in mind, this is the first round of combining both the KVASD-Installer with the WSJTX-Dev package. If you have issues, report them to the wsjtx-devel list: <wsjt-devel@lists.sourceforge.net> so we can address them.
