This post if for Linux users, specifically, Ubuntu based distros. If your using Windows, please disregard. As most of you are aware, Joe (K1JT) just released WSJT-X v1.4.0. This new release does not ( by design ) include the KVASD decoder as it is a non-FOSS Binary. There are several ways to add the binary, however, this post will use the respective package manager (apt-get) and a PPA for installation. Long term, this package will land in the distribution repo's, at which point, the PPA will no longer be required. The following instructions should get you up and running in short order. TESTED / SUPPORTED DISTRO's (32/64-bit) * Ubuntu: 12.04 (Precise), 14.04 (Trusty), 14.10 (Utopic), 15.04 (Vivid) * Debian and Mint will work, but it's outside the scope of this message ADDING THE PPA * At your Desktop, open a terminal, Ctrl+Alt+T * sudo apt-get update * sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ki7mt/kvasd-installer * Accept the PGP Key * sudo apt-get update * sudo apt-get install kvasd-installer INSTALLING KVASD Binary * Run the installer: ./kvasd-installer * Select Option [I] Install decoder * Accept the EULA (End User License Agreement) * After Install, select [T] Test decoder * If the test passed, you should be presented with: - ----- .. Results: KVASD version 1.12 -- Decode test *** PASSED *** - ----- * Exit kvasd-installer That should do it. Run WSJT-X v1.4.0 as you would normally. Updates to kvasd-installer, after installation, are through your normal update method: - ----- sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade - ----- If you have issues ( find a bug, typo, etc ) with the kvasd-installer, please post them to the wsjt-devel list so they can be addressed.
