Thanks Bill, for clearing up my confusion.

The protocol is working really good. I have tried it simultaneously with 
multiple WSJT-X instances on multiple machines and OSes. My application gets 
all decodes from the different WSJT-X instances. When replying to a CQ, it ends 
up in the correct instance.

I am missing one thing though. A status message has to be triggered by e.g. a 
frequency change in the WSJT-X GUI. I have made a patch, which is attached to 
this mail, that  adds a query message to trigger a status update. It can be 
used when a heartbeat is received from a client whose status is unknown.
