I basically agree but sometimes it is unavoidable.

That is quite correct /w respect to WSJT-X we do have a small number of 
binary files in the repo, for example we use an NSIS plug in DLL that is 
not available in source form.

It is well worth trying to eliminate parts of the final product being 
built from pre-built binary components but occasionally tools and 
installation support facilities may have to be binary.
