My preference is to reserve tags for milestones that we need to be able 
to reproduce, for example to revert back to a prior release to test a 
reported issue. In the case of the wsjtx_exp branch I believe Joe is 
just asking those that have the ability to build from source to give it 
a try as feedback on stability and function is useful to him at this point.

The release branches + feature branches we are using is pretty standard 
practice and releases for beta test would normally be made and tagged 
from a release branch after any relevant feature branch work has been 
reintegrated.
