OK, I think that for me this is resolved.

I have followed the consensus and kept to the simple approach that Bill 
and Richard use.

I would like to commend this project for the best upstream support that 
I have found in any project with which I have been involved. (With the 
possible exception of freedv, Richard :)

Maybe this is because we are all amateurs and have that extra commitment :)

Anyway many thanks for your help in getting this into Mageia.

Bill - just one point - I did not check your fork, but the TS-450S seems 
to require one stop bit not two (as shown in the Kenwood manual). Stock 
hamlib uses two which fails, and setting one in wsjtx (and patching 
hamlib) works fine.
