I agree that automagically remembering many different band/tune/etc 
combinations is probably a lot more confusing than it is helpful.

The OS control is fine and is why I'm not too worried about this patch.

The RF power setting in my rig is not much use for digital modes because 
it has only a small effect on gain, and mainly seems to just set the ALC 
threshold. If I want to avoid running deep into ALC I have to tweak the 
audio levels every time I change power level or band. And even if I did 
rely on it, the setting only goes down to 5W so it's still not enough to 
run WSPR where I want it. Thus I've given up on the rig's RF power and 
just leave it at maximum all the time, and rely on audio levels to set 
output power.

I think what suits my own purposes best is a separate program that can 
manage power levels by observing what band the rig is operating on and 
using a lookup table or RF sensor to adjust audio levels to produce 
suitable output. But that's nothing to do with wsjtx so I'll ruminate on 
it by myself.
