I have been thinking that this *is* essential. In any event, we want
decodes posted to the GUI as soon as available -- not at the end of what
might be a lengthy process, when working on a crowded band.

Yes. But if we dispose of the separate-process way of doing things, the
present cumbersome interface becomes moot, no? So why bother to fix it?
